I’ve been working on building up an exhibition in the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art called LIVING - Frontiers of Architecture III and IV. A great place to work, and it turns out not only to be a beautiful museum on a dreamlike location in Denmark, but a also a fantastic exhibition for anyone interested in architecture and the way we think about our buildings.

Bart Goldhoorn @ LIVING - Frontiers of Architecture III and IV at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Bart Goldhoorn (the guy who hired me) has some pretty amazing idea’s about developing cities. A form of open source architecture; I think this might be the start of a new era in building buildings, would you agree?

Selling my >35 year old electric cargo scooter.

Last year I bought a full electric scooter with the intention to use it on a garden complex. As it turned out I am not allowed to use this on our complex.

It turned out to be quite a discovery; a scooter running on 4 twelve volt batteries delivering 48 volt to power the engine. Its a timeless design, but looks as if it is a diy project. It was smuggled from China by a greenhouse plant importer a bit more than 35 years ago, the story goes its the only one available outside China.

Electric carco scooter

It is in very good shape, the tires are like new and it has recently been upgraded with 4 brand new 12V97AH MK Power Gel batteries.

The electrical system is in need of some attention though, it has an internal charger for the batteries which is not working anymore.

Electric system needs attention.

The bike has two speeds (fast and faster) and a reverse, when you hit the brakes (on the rear wheels) the engine stops working, simple but very effective technology. :)

The scooter is located in Amsterdam.

Cardboard Helmets - When Anirudha Rao found that expanded polystyrene helmets only protect the users heads 16 percent of the time during a crash as polystyrene does little to absorb impact energy, the designer offered us a much effective alternative of cycling protections: Kranium.

When Anirudha Rao found that expanded polystyrene helmets only protect the users’ heads 16 percent of the time during a crash as polystyrene does little to absorb impact energy, the designer offered us a much effective alternative of cycling protections: ‘Kranium’.

Exhibited during London Design Week 2010 at Designersblock, the new helmet is made from cardboard and features several ribs that will flex and de-flex during a crash to absorb the energy of impact. When tested against British (EN 1078) standards at the imperial college, ‘Kranium’ was found to have the ability of absorbing four times the amount of impact energy as that of regular helmets. And we bet that exciting news will surely make ‘Kranium’ the most popular one on the helmet market.

Thank you BBC!

Watch if you wonder what you eat, and might be eating if we are lucky/smart enough.

Suddenly I see so much more spaces where permaculture could be given a chance, not just agrcultural lands, but I guess that public parks, home gardens and loads of other area’s could do the trick.

Permaculture; a future for farming?
